What is a skin tumor?

  What are skin tumors?  Various tumors often grow in the skin and subcutaneous tissues of people. Most of the skin tumors are benign, such as pigmented nevus (commonly known as nevus), age-related warts, hemangioma, various cysts, lipoma, and dermatofibroma. However, there are also some malignant tumors, such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous carcinoma, malignant melanoma and so on. There are also some tumors between benign and malignant, such as dermatokeratosis, solar keratosis, keratoacanthoma, etc., which may become malignant if left untreated.  What are the dangers of skin tumors?  Benign tumors can affect the patient’s aesthetics and can be secondary to infection. Very rarely, benign tumors can become malignant.  Malignant tumors can destroy the skin and subcutaneous tissues, disfigure the skin, and in some cases, metastasize and invade internal organs, resulting in death.  How to diagnose skin tumor?  If you suspect that you have skin tumor, you should ask your doctor for diagnosis. Skin biopsy and pathological examination are the most definite means of diagnosis.  What should I do if I have a skin tumor?  Some skin tumors do not require treatment, but observation. Tumors that require treatment can be treated with surgery, laser and cryotherapy. Surgery is one of the most important treatment options for skin tumors. For some skin tumors, it is the only treatment method. Surgical treatment of skin tumors is generally safe. Cosmetic incisions and flaps can also be used for some special areas and larger tumors.
