Whether an epidermal cyst will become cancerous without cutting cannot be generalized and should be judged according to the specific condition. Epidermal cyst, also known as keratocyst, is one of the most common skin cysts, which is a kind of cyst containing keratin in the dermis and is a benign lesion. If the location of epidermal cyst is hidden, small in size and without obvious discomfort symptoms, it is usually not cancerous. If repeatedly stimulated by infection, although the chance of cancer is extremely low, there is still a certain possibility. Therefore, if a patient has repeated infections and ruptures of epidermal cysts, surgical removal is recommended. If chronic inflammation is formed locally, it may also lead to adhesions between the cyst and the surrounding tissues, local skin unevenness or scarring. After the appearance of epidermal cysts, patients should preferably have them removed when there is no inflammation and redness, or when the cysts are small, because they are easy to remove cleanly and the surgical wound is not large. Once erythema occurs, the outer wall of the cyst will become very brittle and it will be difficult to remove it cleanly.
