What’s going on with the hardening of the skin around the ankles?

The hardening of the skin at the ankle may be a physiologic phenomenon or a pathologic phenomenon. Physiological phenomenon is mostly considered to be caused by long time walking or wearing tight shoes; pathological phenomenon is mostly considered to be caused by scleroderma.
1. Physiological reasons: long time walking will lead to friction, as well as wearing tight shoes, which will also lead to obvious thickening of the stratum corneum, in which case it will naturally induce hardening of the skin at the ankle. This phenomenon is a normal physiological phenomenon, as long as the choice of loose shoes, reduce the walking time, can be effectively relieved.
2. Pathologic causes: Mostly considered to be caused by scleroderma, also known as limited scleroderma. The cause of the disease is unknown at present, and it is considered to be related to heredity, infection, trauma and so on. It can also cause local skin hardening, smooth and shiny surface, or even atrophy.
If the hardening of the skin at the ankle is ruled out as a physiological cause, you should go to the local hospital in time to find out the cause and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
