Patients with urinary tract infections caused by holding urine need to avoid holding urine. For patients with disease conditions that lead to holding urine in the bladder, indwelling catheter drainage or suprapubic cystocentesis drainage is needed to drain the urine held in the bladder in a timely manner to reduce the probability of infection or to promote recovery from infection as soon as possible. If the urinary tract infection is caused by holding urine, medication is recommended, and it is usually sufficient to drink more water and urinate more often to avoid holding urine. However, if there is urethral stricture, urethral stones or men with prostatic hyperplasia causing urinary tract obstruction and urine is always held in the bladder, drainage is needed, otherwise the infection will not recover easily or will be prone to recurrence if the infection is not treated simply without removing the trigger for holding urine. There are also some patients who have urinary tract infections caused by prolonged urine holding due to paralysis of body functions or prolonged bed rest, etc. They also need to be drained by suprapubic cystocentesis, or else they are still prone to complications of urinary tract infections simply by leaving a catheter in place.
