What is dwarfism?
A child is considered to have short stature if his or her height is below the third white quintile of the growth curve or below -2 SD for a normal healthy child of the same age, race and sex.
How can I find out if my child has dwarfism?
From the annual growth rate: the annual growth rate is less than 7cm before the age of 2, less than 5cm from the age of 3 to the pre-pubertal period, and less than 7cm during the pubertal period. Comparing with children of the same age: children who always sit in the first row of the class or are about one head shorter than other children.
What causes dwarfism?
Genetics, nutrition, disease, maternal pregnancy, living environment and endocrine conditions can all lead to dwarfism, of which endocrine abnormalities are the main causes, including growth hormone deficiency, idiopathic dwarfism, small for gestational age, Turner’s syndrome, precocious puberty and so on.
Don’t blindly listen to the advertisements of “height increasing drugs” and “health products” etc. These things have too much hormone content, which will only accelerate the aging of the bones, leaving less room for growth and even precocious puberty! Go to a professional pediatric endocrinology clinic in time, cooperate with the doctor to conduct a comprehensive physical examination and necessary laboratory tests, determine the cause of the disease and treat it in time!
Early treatment has good effect and low cost: research shows that the younger the child is, the more active the epiphyseal cartilage layer is, the more sensitive it is to treatment and the better the growth effect; the lighter the child’s weight is, the smaller the amount of medication used and the less the cost!
