Swollen feet are not always a case of gout, and a definitive diagnosis needs to be made based on specific symptoms. For example, gout can appear in the first metatarsophalangeal joints of the lower extremities, ankle joints and so on. The attack may be preceded by a history of a high-purine diet, such as drinking alcohol, eating seafood, drinking broth and so on. The attacked joints have more obvious redness, swelling, pain, localized temperature increase, activity limitation, and the pain is more intense, cut-like, tear-like pain, and blood uric acid increase can be found in the auxiliary examination. If there are the above conditions, the possibility of gout should be considered. In addition, some other diseases may also appear foot swelling, such as venous reflux disorder, cardiac failure, heart disease, hypertension, endocarditis, severe kidney disease, liver disease or malnutrition, and some thyroid diseases may appear lower limb swelling, so need to carry out relevant tests to clarify the diagnosis.
