What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the treatment of orthodontic malocclusion of the teeth and jaws.
What is dentofacial malocclusion? (i.e. who needs orthodontic treatment)
Malocclusion refers to the abnormal alignment of teeth caused by congenital genetic factors or acquired environmental factors during the growth and development of children; misalignment between dental arches and jaws; and misalignment between teeth and jaws, craniofacial relationship.
Commonly speaking: misaligned teeth, buck teeth, enameled teeth, teeth with gaps, etc. (as shown in the back picture)
The harm of malocclusion
1, affect the aesthetics: not confident
2, affect the function: pronunciation, chewing, breathing, temporomandibular joint disorders, growth and development
3, affect the oral health: prone to dental caries, periodontitis, bite disorder
Timing of orthodontic treatment
1.Primary period (around 4 years old): Diastema, bad habits
2.Denture replacement period (6 years old or so): Diastemas, mild to moderate bony deformities such as maxillary protrusion or mandibular recession, anterior teeth opening and closing, bad habits (tongue spitting, finger biting, lip biting, mouth breathing, etc.)
3, permanent period (around 12 years old): various malocclusions, except for bony malocclusions that are so severe that they require surgical correction.
