According to the different organs involved, we can refer to the treatment of “lung carbuncle” and “intestinal carbuncle (carbuncle occurring in the intestines and organs, manifested by fever, pain in the right abdomen and palpable lumps)” in Chinese medicine. Rhubarb and Mudan Soup has certain therapeutic effect on intestinal carbuncle, but the effect is related to the patient’s physical condition and the severity of the disease. Rhubarb and Mudan Soup has the effect of diarrhea heat and breaking the knot (eliminating heat, breaking the knot), dispersing the knot and subduing the swelling. It is indicated for the treatment of intestinal carbuncle at the beginning, with evidence of dampness, heat and stagnation. Symptoms include pain in the right lower abdomen, pain like drenching, even localized swelling and plumpness, or flexion of the right foot without extension, and severe pain when extension is made, or fever at times. Rhubarb and Peony Soup should be used with caution or contraindicated in all cases of ulcerated intestinal carbuncle, as well as in the elderly, pregnant women, post-partum, or those who are too weak to use it. If there is any discomfort, prompt medical attention is recommended. If medication is needed, it should be identified by a doctor and standardized treatment should be followed.
