Sanyinjiao point is located on the inner side of the calf, 3 inches above the tip of the inner ankle, at the posterior margin of the inner edge of the tibia. The foot Sanli point is located on the lateral side of the lower leg, 3 inches below the calf’s nose, 1 transverse finger beside the anterior edge of the tibia, on the line between the calf’s nose and Xiexi.
Sanyinjiao point is the place where the three yin meridians of the foot meet, so it is called Sanyinjiao, belonging to the spleen meridian of the foot taiyin. It has the effects of benefiting qi and strengthening the spleen, activating blood circulation and regulating menstruation, and tonifying the liver and kidney. It is clinically used for treating abdominal distension, intestinal sounding, diarrhea, spermatorrhea, impotence, palpitation, menstrual irregularities, and so on.
Foot Sanli point belongs to Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It has the efficacy of strengthening the spleen and harmonizing the stomach, promoting menstruation and blood circulation, tonifying the middle Jiao (treating Qi deficiency by tonifying the spleen), and regulating Qi and lowering rebelliousness. It is clinically used to treat vomiting, abdominal distension, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, and breast carbuncle (a purulent disease that eventually develops when the breasts are red, swollen, and painful and the milk is not discharged properly).
