How long can I live with a swollen diabetic foot?

There are many causes of foot swelling in diabetes, and there is no specific generalization about the length of survival. Usually the life expectancy is related to the degree and duration of renal impairment, and if the stage of diabetic nephropathy is reached, or even the development of uremia, the survival time may only be about 3-5 years. The presence of edema in diabetic patients indicates the emergence of diabetic nephropathy and requires prompt consultation and treatment at the endocrinology department of the hospital. Good control of blood sugar at the initial stage of diabetic edema has no effect on survival time. The foot swelling caused by the increase of blood sugar alone is less difficult to treat, and the foot swelling can gradually disappear after the blood sugar is effectively controlled. However, if the blood sugar is poorly controlled and the condition continues to deteriorate, uremia may occur, and then the survival time is significantly reduced. Once diabetic nephropathy undergoes prolonged dialysis, the survival time is usually only about 3-5 years. Diabetic foot swelling is a more serious situation, it is recommended to go to the hospital for relevant treatment, actively control blood sugar, blood pressure, blood lipids, appropriate elevation of the lower extremities in general, necessary to relieve pain through acupuncture and massage, etc., in order to improve the quality of life and extend the life of patients.
