Abiraterone is an important therapeutic agent for desmoresistant prostate cancer. Abiraterone is an inhibitor of androgen biosynthesis, which reduces the level of androgens in the body by blocking the androgen biosynthesis pathway. Studies have shown that abiraterone acetate combined with prednisone is effective in extending the median survival of patients with desmoid-resistant prostate cancer by four months, relieving pain and delaying the progression of bone metastases. The U.S. FDA has approved abiraterone acetate in combination with prednisone for the treatment of patients receiving docetaxel chemotherapy for treatment of destructive-resistant prostate cancer. Abiraterone may trigger adverse effects such as fluid retention, edema, hypokalemia and hypertension during its use, which are usually relieved by the addition of glucocorticoids such as prednisone or dexamethasone.
