How to properly rehabilitate a patella fracture

Exercises for patella fracture include patella mobility training and lower limb muscle strength training. The patient needs to be guided by the doctor to adopt progressive training, so as to restore the function. The postoperative rehabilitation exercise of patella fracture is carried out in the order of early, middle and late stage.
1. Early stage: Usually in the first week, the therapist performs passive patella movement, and the patient can also lie on the bed and flex and extend the knee as far as tolerated to maintain and improve the mobility of the patella.
2. Intermediate stage: usually for the second to fifth week, the patient can start to perform lower limb muscle training, such as straight leg raising training, the patient lying on the back of the thigh straight upward lifting, during the period of time can be appropriate to increase the intensity of muscle training. In addition, patients can practice walking on the basis of crutch support or plaster immobilization.
3. Late stage: usually in the 6th to 8th week, try to adjust the gait under the doctor’s guidance; if the knee joint mobility allows, you can start to pedal a stationary bicycle to exercise the strength of the lower limbs and joint mobility, and increase the resistance appropriately.
Patients with patellar fracture need to be under the guidance of the attending physician during the recovery period, do not exercise without authorization to avoid adverse effects on the body.
