Lumbar disc herniation is a series of clinical symptoms and signs due to degeneration of the lumbar disc, rupture of the annulus fibrosus, and protrusion of the nucleus pulposus irritating or compressing the nerve roots and cauda equina nerve, which is a common clinical disease and the main cause of low back pain. The typical symptoms are low back pain or no low back pain, mainly numbness and pain in the lower limbs unilaterally or bilaterally, walking disorder, urinary and fecal dysfunction, etc. The symptoms can be relieved after early rest, but in severe cases, the symptoms are gradually aggravated with walking and even sleepless nights. Treatment can be conservative or surgical depending on the symptoms and degree. The following symptoms often require timely consultation and should not be delayed: 1. persistent lower limb or lumbar pain, gradually worsening, not relieved by rest; 2. weakness of lower limb or foot activities; 3. urinary and bowel dysfunction; 4. sudden aggravation of lumbar and leg pain without relief, seriously affecting life and work.
