Drainage fluid after pancreaticoduodenal surgery is normally clear and bright in color. If other colors are present, it may be due to a variety of reasons, which need to be clarified and treated. After pancreaticoduodenal surgery, drainage tubes need to be placed to drain out the leaking fluid from the pancreatic dissection or anastomosis to promote recovery. Drainage fluid after pancreaticoduodenal surgery is normally clear and brightly colored. If the drainage fluid is yellow or brown, it may be due to accumulation of blood and necrotic tissue in the pancreas. If the drainage fluid is bright red it is currently bleeding and requires prompt management. If the drainage fluid is purulent, it may be co-infected, and bacterial culture is needed to select the appropriate antibiotic for treatment. It should be noted that the drainage bag should not be higher than the outlet, otherwise it is easy to backflow and cause infection, which is not conducive to the patient’s recovery.
