What is the cause of the pain under the earlobe

Pain below the earlobe may be caused by inflammation of the lymph nodes. Lymph node inflammation is caused by bacterial infection, resulting in redness, swelling, pain, and even pus on the surface of the lymph nodes. The main causative agent is Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus haemolyticus, which generally requires oral antibiotic treatment, such as cefradine, cefixime, ciprofloxacin and so on. If the condition worsens during treatment and an abscess is formed, it needs to be incised and drained under local anesthesia, and then the wound is changed. Alternatively, there may be a viral infection that causes inflammation of the parotid gland, which usually occurs easily when the body’s resistance and immunity are reduced. It manifests as a lump and pain below the earlobe, with pressure pain when pressed, and the patient may have difficulty opening the mouth. Antiviral treatment, such as oral oseltamivir or intravenous ribavirin, is needed for about one week.
