What to do when your toenails are empty

Causes of empty toenails include local trauma, fungal infections, and nutritional deficiencies. Treatment includes general treatment, drug treatment, surgical treatment and so on.
1. Local trauma: such as heavy object pressure injury, touching the nail, etc. may cause local tissue ischemia and lack of oxygen, resulting in tissue necrosis and cavities. Generally, no treatment is needed, as the nails slowly fall off, new toenails will gradually grow.
2. Gray nail: Commonly used topical medications include 30% glacial acetic acid solution, terbinafine hydrochloride ointment, 8% cyclopiazole, 5% amorolfine, etc., and can be combined with oral medications such as itraconazole, fluconazole, terbinafine, etc. If the above methods are ineffective, surgical extraction can be used. If the above methods are ineffective, surgical nail extraction or nail removal is feasible. In addition, laser therapy and photodynamic therapy can also be applied.
3. Nutritional deficiencies: Vitamin and trace element deficiencies can also cause the above conditions, and the deficient vitamins or trace elements can be supplemented according to the results of auxiliary examinations.
In addition to the above diseases, diabetes and other diseases can also cause the above symptoms. If the above symptoms are severe, or if they persist and do not improve, the patient should go to the hospital to find out the cause of the disease and be given targeted treatment under the guidance of the doctor. The above medications should be used under the supervision of a pharmacist or a doctor, and should not be used on their own.
