What to do if your 2 year old baby has a cold and runny nose

Cold and runny nose in a 2-year-old baby may be a symptomatic manifestation of certain diseases, such as common cold, allergic rhinitis, influenza and so on. According to different causes, different treatment methods should be taken, and should be promptly consulted.
1. Common cold: the disease is an acute self-limiting viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, which can cause a 2-year-old baby with a cold runny nose. Common cold is self-limiting, gradually relieved within 10~14 days, no treatment is needed. If the symptoms make the child interrupt sleep, hinder drinking water, etc., symptomatic treatment can be given, and the treatment modes are nasal suction, saline nose drops, adequate rehydration, cold mist humidifier, etc.
2. Allergic rhinitis: Allergic rhinitis may be intermittent, seasonal or persistent. Typical manifestations include itchy nose, watery nasal spillage, nasal congestion (nasal congestion), and sneezing, which causes a cold and runny nose in 2-year-olds. Treatment includes avoidance of allergens, medication including the antihistamine cetirizine and the glucocorticoid nasal spray mometasone furoate, and allergen immunotherapy.
3. Influenza: the disease is caused by influenza A or B viruses. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, myalgia, accompanied by respiratory disease manifestations, such as cough, sore throat and rhinitis, which cause 2-year-old babies to catch a cold with a runny nose, and treatments include bed rest, drinking plenty of fluids, nasal attraction, and oral antiviral medication oseltamivir, and so on.
If your 2 year old baby has a cold and runny nose, you should consult a doctor promptly to avoid delaying your condition. All of the above medications should be used under doctor’s supervision, avoid self-medication.
