Astragalus has the effects of tonifying qi and elevating yang (tonifying qi in order to elevate yang qi), consolidating the surface to stop sweating (stopping sweating by consolidating the surface of the muscle), inducing diuresis to reduce edema (relieving urination and eliminating edema), generating fluids to nourish blood (replenishing the body’s water and blood), supporting toxins to drain pus (draining out pus and toxins from the body), and restraining sores and promoting the growth of muscle (helping to heal the sores faster and promoting the growth of new flesh). It is used in the treatment of spleen qi deficiency and lung qi deficiency.
Astragalus is sweet in flavor, slightly warm in nature, and belongs to the spleen and lung meridians. It is often used in the treatment of qi deficiency (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by a little movement), qi and blood deficiency, carbuncle and gangrene difficult to ulcerate, or ulcer for a long time difficult to converge and so on.
If used for weak lung qi, cough and shortness of breath, it is often used together with ginseng, aster and schizandra. It is also used to treat superficial deficiency and spontaneous sweating (frequent and natural sweating due to weakness of the muscle surface), and is often used together with oyster, ephedra root, atractylodes, and other medicines. It is also used for deficiency of qi and blood, and is often used together with Angelica sinensis and longan meat.
Adverse effects of astragalus is not clear, and its biased warm tonic, so the surface of the solid evil, sores at the beginning or after the collapse of the heat is still full of people should not be used.
Chinese medicine should be used under the guidance of a professional doctor, not blindly self-medication, in order to avoid adverse reactions.
