In most cases, the fistula bag can be changed once in 7 or 3-5 days if not specifically requested. Before using a new bag, the contents of the previous bag should be drained into a container and the skin around the fistula should be washed with moist wipes. The skin around the stoma needs to be checked frequently during the use of the fistula bag. If there is no skin damage around the stoma, the patient may choose to use a skin protector to wipe the surrounding skin, after which the fistula bag needs to be placed over the opening and pressed against the skin for 2-5 minutes.
