What does locally advanced esophageal cancer mean

Locally advanced esophageal cancer usually refers to the cancerous lesions in the esophagus that have invaded the surrounding tissues and have not invaded important organs and developed distant metastasis.
For patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer, first of all, they need to undergo a series of examinations according to its stage, such as gastroscopy, chest CT and gastrointestinal imaging, and if necessary, biopsies should be obtained for pathological examination to assess whether the locally advanced esophageal cancer can be completely resected by surgery, and if it can be completely resected, radical surgery will usually be chosen.
However, if the invasion of esophageal cancer to the surrounding tissues is more serious, the cancer or surrounding tissues that cannot be completely removed can be treated with local radiotherapy and combined chemotherapy.
When esophageal cancer is found to be locally advanced, don’t panic, and actively cooperate with doctors for treatment to control the progress of the disease.
