What’s wrong with chest pains when I eat and swallow?

Chest pain when swallowing food may be caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), esophageal cancer, lung cancer invading into the esophagus and so on. 1. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Prolonged stimulation by stomach acid or long-term smoking and drinking will easily lead to dysfunction of lower esophageal sphincter and cause GERD. After eating, the patient will aggravate the stimulation to the esophagus area and cause chest pain. 2. Esophageal cancer: the etiology is unknown, smoking and heavy drinking are important factors of esophageal squamous carcinoma, poor dietary habits or taking drugs that damage the esophagus are high-risk factors of esophageal cancer, in which the patient’s eating and swallowing will aggravate the stimulation of esophageal tumor and cause compression to the surrounding tissues, and the chest will be painful when swallowing something. 3. Lung cancer invades the esophagus: when suffering from lung cancer, the cancer cells may invade the esophagus, and there will be chest pain when eating and swallowing. If there is chest pain when eating and swallowing, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time for treatment.
