The color Doppler report, which indicates the presence of a gestational sac in the uterine cavity, should be read by your doctor to determine the likelihood of pregnancy. Whether the pregnancy is confirmed by pregnancy test or blood HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) test during early pregnancy, it is important to follow the doctor’s instructions to perform an ultrasound color Doppler test at about 40 days after menopause to confirm a normal pregnancy and to rule out ectopic pregnancy and other pathologic pregnancy conditions. Normal pregnancy can be confirmed when a pregnancy sac is seen in the uterine cavity by color Doppler. However, when no intrauterine gestational sac is seen on color Doppler, the time of menopause should be checked again. If the pregnancy is caused by a short period of time, the test can be repeated in 7 to 10 days as prescribed by the doctor. If the time is sufficient and the pregnancy is confirmed by blood or urine HCG test, there is a need to be highly alert to the possibility of ectopic pregnancy and paracentesis is required.
