UU-DNA is a test for the DNA of a mycoplasma, i.e., the deoxyribonucleic acid of a mycoplasma. Mycoplasmas are pathogens that are intermediate between bacteria and viruses, more advanced than viruses but less advanced than bacteria. Mycoplasma can cause infections in the urinary, respiratory or genital tracts of patients, and the infection can cause the appropriate symptoms and even lead to adverse consequences. When examining such pathogens, local mycoplasma DNA or RNA can be examined, and even culture or drug sensitivity tests can be performed to determine if an infection is present. Therefore, if a patient suspects the presence of a mycoplasma infection, it can be further determined by examining deoxyribonucleic acid.
