Pancreatic cancer is known as the “king of cancers” because of its hidden location, difficult to be detected early and high death rate. The incidence rate of pancreatic cancer in China used to be lower than that in Europe and America, but in recent years, the incidence rate has been increasing, and in Shanghai, for example, it has increased four times in the past 20 years. In the past, the incidence of pancreatic cancer was more common among the elderly over 60 years old, but in recent years, there are more and more people in their 40s and 50s who have pancreatic cancer, and it is not rare to see pancreatic cancer patients in their 20s and 30s. Most pancreatic cancer patients are already in advanced stage when they are diagnosed, and pancreatic cancer surgery is the most difficult and risky of all surgical procedures. Less than 20% of pancreatic cancer patients currently have the opportunity for surgical resection after diagnosis. The overall 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer patients after surgery is only about 5%, and if there is a chance of resection, the 5-year survival rate can reach about 20%. More than 90% of untreated patients tend to die within a year, with an average survival of less than 6 months. Therefore, for patients with pancreatic cancer, the most critical thing is to grasp the key aspects of pancreatic cancer treatment to strive for the best clinical treatment effect. At present, surgical resection is the only possible treatment to cure pancreatic cancer. At present, less than 20% of pancreatic cancer patients are able to undergo surgical resection. Therefore, once the surgeon proposes the treatment plan of surgical resection, patients and their families should actively cooperate. Once surgical resection is obtained, the 5-year survival rate can be increased from 5% to 20%. There is no other way to achieve this result. However, surgery for pancreatic cancer is very difficult and risky, and patients need to endure surgical complications, so patients and their families should be fully prepared for this. 2.Regular postoperative adjuvant treatment The biggest test for pancreatic cancer patients after surgery is the recurrence and metastasis of cancer. At present, there is no effective method to prevent it. However, according to large-scale clinical trials, there are already some effective drugs that can inhibit the growth of pancreatic cancer cells. Chemotherapy (abbreviated as chemotherapy, which is actually drug therapy) is one of the methods recognized as effective for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Moreover, new drugs are introduced every year for pancreatic cancer. Although these drugs have certain side effects, overall, they can improve patients’ survival after surgery and improve their quality of life. Patients and their families should fully communicate with their doctors and follow the course of treatment in a scientific and reasonable manner. It should be especially noted that chemotherapy does have a series of side effects, but under the control of current medical technology and drugs, most chemotherapy side effects are controllable, and most patients are able to successfully complete the chemotherapy course. 3. Do not seek medical help when you are sick Pancreatic cancer patients and their families are mostly in a state of panic and confusion at the beginning of the disease diagnosis. At this time, it is very easy for them to turn to random doctors. They even believe in the so-called “new methods” and “novel remedies” of some small hospitals and clinics, thus delaying the disease. Therefore, once you suspect that you have pancreatic cancer, you should immediately go to a large hospital with pancreatic specialty to get professional advice and determine the regular treatment plan. As long as we pay enough attention to pancreatic cancer, early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment, and take the right key step in treatment, the so-called “king of cancer” is not invincible.
