The following problems can occur in adults with hypothyroidism: i. Mucinous edema. Patients with hypothyroidism may experience swelling of the face and eyelids, fear of cold, little or no sweating, weight gain, memory loss, unresponsiveness, and other symptoms of hypometabolism. Second, hypothyroidism can slow down the patient’s heart rate, affect myocardial contractility, and produce pericardial effusion. Third, hypothyroidism leads to muscle weakness or elevated muscle enzyme profile, forming hypothyroid myopathy. Fourth, hypothyroidism affects lipid metabolism, causing hypercholesterolemia and aggravating the development of atherosclerosis. Fifth, hypothyroidism can cause nutritional anemia. VI. Hypothyroidism in women can affect the growth and development period of the fetus during pregnancy. Seven, severe hypothyroidism can occur mucinous edema coma. Mucinous edema coma is an endocrine emergency with high mortality and requires active treatment.
