Patients with HFMD may also develop a cough. HFMD is a contagious disease caused by a viral infection that, in addition to causing a rash on the hands, feet, mouth, and perianal area, as well as symptoms of fever, may also lead to complications, and among these complications may be a cough. Therefore, whenever HFMD causes inflammation of the bronchial tubes, coughing can occur, and there can be symptoms of coughing and coughing up sputum, and if aggravated there may even be chest tightness or difficulty in breathing. When coughing occurs, the first thing to do is to auscultate the lungs to determine if there is dry rales, and if so, a chest X-ray or direct chest CT is needed to determine if there is pneumonia. If there is pneumonia or bronchitis, symptomatic treatment is needed. In addition, the patient’s resistance is reduced during HFMD and may be combined with other bacterial or viral infections leading to bronchial inflammation and cough. Therefore, there are two causes of coughing in HFMD: complications caused by HFMD or bronchial inflammation caused by the combination of other pathogens during HFMD.
