The International Summit Forum on Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology meeting was held in Nanning, Guangxi, June 12-15, 2014, where experts discussed the topic of congenital lacrimal duct obstruction in infants and children. Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction is a common ocular disease in pediatric patients, which is caused by the incomplete degeneration of the distal hasner membrane of the nasolacrimal duct and usually manifests as lacrimation and pus. Treatment methods are generally divided into non-surgical and surgical treatments. Non-surgical treatment: lacrimal sac area massage, lacrimal duct irrigation; surgical treatment: lacrimal duct exploration, lacrimal duct balloon dilation, lacrimal duct intubation, nasolacrimal duct stent implantation, lacrimal sac nasal anastomosis. Opinion: lacrimal duct exploration is a simple, rapid and effective method for treating congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction, more than 95% of children can be cured by lacrimal duct exploration and other methods, children with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction who are not treated by non-surgical treatment should undergo lacrimal duct exploration as early as possible, children with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction who are not treated by lacrimal duct exploration should be cautious due to the characteristics of infants and young children’s tear sacs and nasal cavity itself Other surgical treatment methods should be used.
