What is the significance of Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of diseases?

The content of my lecture this time will not only be to promote the popular knowledge of Chinese medicine to prevent and treat diseases, but also to report to you, gentlemen, my personal understanding and knowledge of Chinese medicine and my experience of using Chinese medicine knowledge to serve patients with perseverance.
First, Chinese medicine is a concept that arises in contrast to Western medicine.
  1. Chinese medicine practitioner.
A TCM physician should generally have the basic knowledge of Chinese medicine, the ability to use the basic knowledge of Chinese medicine, with the unique thinking and cognitive mode of traditional Chinese science, with the above conditions and legally engaged in medical activities and in medical practice gradually enrich the connotation of knowledge to improve the knowledge structure, improve the medical ability and medical level, such a person can be called a TCM physician.
  2.Chinese medicine
It is a concept relative to Western medicine. It is a traditional Chinese medicine with a unique understanding of the functional structure of the human body, supported by a unique classical medical theory, with many schools, and a unique Chinese traditional natural science, social science mode of thinking and cognition.
TCM basically includes these two sub-concepts. For example, TCM can refer to a doctor or to a medical category.
  3.Chinese medicine
Chinese medicine is inseparable from Chinese medicine, which is very different from the relationship between Western medicine and Western medicine. Chinese medicine is mostly biological and mineral in terms of specific substances, which cannot be questioned. However, it cannot be said that the research, development and use of Chinese medicine do not need the guidance of Chinese medicine knowledge. Professor Deng Tietao (professor and doctoral supervisor of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine) once pointed out that only these biological drugs and minerals used under the guidance of TCM theory are called TCM, otherwise, they are not called TCM.
Deng’s statement was distinctly relevant, but it was fiercely criticized by a person who signed his name Wang Qiang in the China Chinese Medicine News at that time. He thought that Deng was talking “nonsense”, saying that it was obviously traditional Chinese medicine and it did not matter whether it was guided by any theory or not. This argument seems to be reasonable, but in fact, it is irresponsible not to face the reality, just empty talk. The reality is that many proprietary Chinese medicines are used, abused and misused in the West. At that time, the focus of the debate was “the incident of kidney failure caused by gentian diarrhea liver pill”, and Deng Lao’s meaning was to address the serious adverse consequences caused by the western use, abuse and indiscriminate use of many proprietary Chinese medicines, which is correct and relevant, and still has important significance from the present perspective. And it is obvious that “no matter what theory guidance” is a fundamental mistake. For example, a person with an abscessed ear applies Gentian and Liver Pill and gets well. If he introduces it to other people, it doesn’t matter if they get better or not, once the improper use causes an accident, who is to blame? Who is to blame for the accident caused by improper use?
If this is introduced to another doctor who does not have the basic thinking of Chinese medicine, it is even worse, he will prescribe this kind of prescription one after another, and if it causes accidents, his first reaction is how this medicine, but he does not know that the medicine is still the same medicine, he used the wrong, he does not know that Chinese medicine is to identify the evidence, not this evidence, with this medicine, it is the same as misdiagnosis plus misdiagnosis. But this situation is easily spread by him and his clients, resulting in the “Gentian and Liver Pill Incident”. Not only in China, but also in Japan, the “Xiao Chai Hu Tang incident” is basically similar to this. Why is this the case with Chinese medicine and not Western medicine? It’s all because of ignorance, because we all know the side effects of western medicine, but we rarely understand the side effects of Chinese medicine. As the old saying goes: medicine is three parts poisonous, Chinese medicine has toxic side effects, especially adult medicine.
The essence of Chinese medicine is what is called “evidence-based treatment”, what is meant by “evidence-based treatment”, that is, treatment according to the person, time and place, this, Chinese medicine can obviously see where the shortcomings are. Discriminatory treatment or called discriminatory prescription can minimize toxic side effects, or even none. It is because of the failure to recognize the characteristics of Chinese medicine and the biased belief in “no toxic side effects” that a large number of these cases occur. This situation is more common in the elderly population; what does this mean? This shows that the use of Chinese medicine must be guided by the theory of Chinese medicine, the serious consequences of the western use or indiscriminate use and abuse of Chinese medicine is not a problem of Chinese medicine but a problem of guiding ideology. The reason why no one has jumped to outlaw western medicine is because we all know that it has toxic side effects, so I am here to tell you that Chinese medicine has toxic side effects, and if it is not treated according to the theory of Chinese medicine, it may cause very serious adverse consequences. The serious adverse consequences caused by listening to the deception of drug dealers or false propaganda cannot be blamed on Chinese medicine but angered by Chinese medicine.
When it comes to the identification of evidence, I think this speaks to the core of TCM diagnosis. The diagnosis of TCM is to recognize the disease mechanism of the disease at this moment. What do you mean by “disease mechanism”? In ancient Chinese, “machine” refers to a part of a crossbow, which is equivalent to a trigger. By extension, it means the determinants of disease occurrence and regression. Therefore, to identify the evidence is to find the key to the occurrence and return of disease, which is no different from Western medicine, only the difference in thinking methods and modes of thinking. Moreover, since the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in TCM is in the form of onion skin, it is not necessary to get the core of the onion before treatment. Using the unique thinking mode of TCM, the unique thinking mode of external and internal research, the clear understanding of the microscopic, combined with the knowledge of traditional Chinese astronomy and geography, the knowledge of meteorology and the overall discriminatory thinking mode of the unity of heaven and man, we can fully achieve a clear diagnosis in the concept of TCM. For example, a middle-aged male has a certain disease. His birth date (year, month, day and hour are very important) can provide us with the most basic information about his life, because the birth of a human being is subject to 280 days of conception, the same as the twenty-eight constellations of the Zhoutian sky running ten cycles, then the time of his innate essence and the year, month, day and hour of birth must be related, the innate essence of the harmony that provides the basic information about the life of this person. To a certain extent, it determines the strength of the corresponding internal organs and the susceptibility to diseases of the internal organs. After birth, the acquired nature begins to interact with the innate nature. If there is a serious bias in the five elements in his eight characters. Then obviously according to the knowledge of astronomy, geography and weather in a certain year, month, day and time in a certain place or a certain weather conditions that will occur in the corresponding organs of the disease, this is certain. If the physician is a little more accomplished, he can also project the disease according to his partner, children, colleagues, partners, because people and people have different endowments, different types also exist in the five elements of yin and yang of the production and control.
Second, the basic posture of modern diseases
The basic situation of modern diseases is based on Yang deficiency and Yin prosperity. The reasons are briefly described as follows.
  1. The chance of being injured by cold evil increases. Air conditioning cold drinks, herbal tea, etc. are prevalent
2, Chinese medicine westernized cold medicine is too much. The application of antibiotics defeats the spleen and stomach. Injury to the spleen and stomach can cause all kinds of diseases. The spleen and stomach is the source of biochemistry, directly leading to spleen Yang deficiency, diarrhea, constipation; long and heart and kidney fear cold urinary frequency, wheezing. As soon as you see hypertension on the cool liver to calm the liver, I do not know that the kidney to Yang Qi is more important, ingestion is not as good as the Dragon Thunder does not return to the sea will become a false fire on the inflammation of the mouth and tongue sores, eyes red, blood pressure, etc.. Once you see a cold and fever with two flowers Chai Hu Baicalin, perhaps his tongue body fat side has teeth marks, usually over-eating cold drinks it, and if there is diarrhea problems it
3, the abuse of bitter cold toothache with gardenia tablets, niuhuang detoxification pill, sore throat with watermelon cream golden voice, etc. all do not identify the evidence
4, do not learn the classics of Chinese medicine, do not identify the yin and Yang. Yin and Yang is the platform of the dialectic program, but many “Chinese doctors” do not identify yin and yang, but only see the cold and heat and give up the symptoms.
5, overwork and tiredness damage Yang Qi. Many modern lifestyles are not in line with the concept of health care in Chinese medicine. Stay up late. Sleep reversal, excessive desire. Too much stress.
6, room strain injury kidney. Modern people’s situation is influenced by the social climate, propaganda, the impact is very serious.
7, lack of sleep damage to Yang Qi. Night is yin, day is yang, sleep at night to nourish yang, sleep deprivation when tired and weak are the performance of Yang injury
8, the abuse of antibiotics, hormones, as mentioned before, antibiotics damage Yang Qi, hormones, in the end, is to damage the body’s external function, naturally, is also damage Yang Qi
9, chronic diseases, Yang deficiency is the majority. Chronic diseases are generally said to damage Yang Qi, often deficient Yang will only emerge is considered to have fire, in fact, a healthy person how much fire, no fire, positive and evil are not mutually exclusive, a victory must have a negative, since the onset of morbidity is a manifestation of insufficient function decay of positive Qi, in the concept of Yang Qi must be protected.
Third, the treatment measures for this situation
From the point of view of health, Chinese medicine says that spring and summer nourish Yang, autumn and winter nourish Yin, how a nourishing method? There are many different opinions among the medical practitioners in the past. From the point of view of protecting the righteousness, spring and summer health should be in line with the characteristics of spring and summer growth. The first is to protect the spleen and stomach, the spleen and stomach is the pivot of all the qi rising and falling. This is the first important. Secondly, in accordance with the season to increase and reduce clothing in the spring at the first warmth should pay attention to prevent cold; summer attention to avoid the summer heat, because the summer heat most hurt people Yang Qi, why?
In the treatment of diseases, we should always pay attention to the protection of the body’s vital energy, focus on the relationship between yin and yang, and deal with the problem in a comprehensive and discriminatory manner, without cutting the relationship between yin and yang, and firmly establish the thinking pattern of Chinese medicine, without interference from the thinking pattern of Western medicine, and grasp the patient as a whole, that is, not as a bad machine, but as a living organism, yin and yang in the same and symbiotic living thing, and pay attention to the mobilization of this organism in the treatment. In treatment, attention is paid to mobilizing the active nature of this organism (in Chinese medicine, it is called invigorating yang energy) so that it can actively fight against yin and evil, rather than mainly using the doctor’s means to directly kill the evil energy, and the positive help the evil to go away. The cure is not anti-bacterial and anti-viral, to know that each person has a sterilization of the national army, our approach is mainly to make these troops full of fighting spirit, stronger and more invincible, but never to replace the direct participation in the war.
Prevention of disease in Chinese medicine is subsumed into the health, the above is a big idea of things, involving specific methods of Chinese medicine health can be said to be colorful, light classification there are many, such as guidance, food, massage room technique, etc., the overall a principle is to make emotional and physical harmony, their own harmony with society, the body and natural harmony, harmony between the internal organs can be, here I do not say more. Those who are interested can communicate individually.
Here I will give an example of the prevention of stroke in my profession for the elderly. The pathogenesis of stroke is the sudden onset of qi and blood disorder based on the accumulation of loss and failure. Stroke is the name of the Chinese medicine image, as the object is affected by the wind and falls, and the condition changes rapidly and dangerously like the wind. We believe that the essence of wind is the rebellion of qi and blood, and the root cause of the rebellion of qi and blood is mostly blamed on the liver. We believe that stroke occurs mainly in the heart, liver and kidneys when the yin and yang of the three organs are out of balance, which eventually causes the liver and yang to turn into wind and the qi to go out of order. The blood reverses with the qi, carrying phlegm and fire across the meridians, obscuring the clear orifices, and forming the upper real and lower deficiency. This means that the head is heavy and the feet are light, the mouth and eyes are crooked, the body is partially paralyzed, and the speech is unfavorable. Once these manifestations appear, we generally know that it is a stroke. We need to get to the hospital quickly. Here I will mainly talk about how to prevent strokes in Chinese medicine
  Prevention principles.
1, to support the right qi, strong body. The strength of the body’s vital energy plays a key role in the onset of stroke. This strength is not about being tall and strong, but the ability to resist stress and the physical quality to fight against unexpected events.
2, regulate the emotions. We used to talk about liver fire, we ask not to have too much liver fire, a matter of red face and neck, that is not good, to learn to have fun. Liver fire is not far from the wind, remember not to move the liver fire. The happy is to make the mood calm, not to win the lottery five million overjoyed, overjoyed then heart fire steal wood gas, because the liver in the five elements of wood, the liver and something, and will turn into wind. In a word to maintain a calm state of mind is definitely good for the body.
3, reasonable labor descending interest (moderate work and rest) do not overwork, stay up late. Strong should Nu. Indulge in wantonness, because the kidney for making strong official, that is, the kidney tube strong labor organs, excessive labor will hurt the kidney, kidney deficiency liver wind easy to move, easy to stroke; also can not be too lazy rest and relaxation. Over-easy to make the qi is not smooth. Spleen transport weakness, the production of phlegm and turbidity blocked by the tunnel to become a stroke.
4, in line with the four changes in the four seasons, to prevent the invasion of the six sexes. In layman’s terms, it is cold to go out and wear thicker, hot to avoid the heat, hot and cold stimulation can lead to the sudden rise of liver wind, the development of stroke.
  General preventive measures.
The first is to adapt to the changes of the four seasons to the cold and temperature, and the second is to live in a regular manner, and the third is to work and rest in moderation.
Dietary regimen: First, we should eat and drink in moderation, second, we should eat and drink cleanly, and third, we should take appropriate food.
Eat a light diet, less fatty food, less high-salt food, less high-sugar food. Do not smoke. Smoking poison can damage the veins and veins and produce phlegm and turbidity blocking the tunnel. Do not drink alcohol, alcohol can produce heat and dampness that hinder the spleen, the function of the spleen in the whole body is to lift and lower the turbidity. The function of the spleen in the whole body is to raise and lower the clear and turbid. A poor diet can easily affect this function of the spleen. What does it mean to raise and lower the clear and turbid? Simply put, the intake of the intake of the throw away the throw away, otherwise they can not throw, garbage will fill the house, that good things will have no place to put. Over time, people will have a big belly, the blood is sticky because the greasy things are not discharged all into the blood vessels, blocking the blood vessels on the stroke. Obese people are prone to vascular aging, increasing the burden on the heart, causing blood pressure to rise and increasing the chances of cerebral hemorrhage. So whether you have a good appetite, do not be fat for beauty, as the saying goes, it is difficult to spend money to buy old to thin well, so to light diet, no smoking and alcohol. Appropriate to take such as wolfberry. Chasteberry. Chrysanthemum. And so can play the role of liver and kidney to dispel the wind.
Soothe the emotions include cultivating the body and mind
  Exercise guidance
Guiding can support the righteousness to prevent the deficiency of qi in the evil, that is, to enhance the resistance to stress and avoid stroke.
In addition, middle-aged and elderly people can take therapeutic prevention if they have the following conditions
  1.Paroxysmal partial body numbness
2.Paroxysmal black dizziness, cicada in the ear
3.Episodic weakness of one side of the limb
4.Frequent half of the face wood numbness
5, frequent tongue biting or cheek biting
  6.Episodic hand tremor and weakness
7.Leakage of food during meals from occasional to frequent
8.Choking on drinking water occurs frequently
  9.Severe headache with unfavorable limbs
  10.Sudden onset of double vision
  11.Walking obliquely
12.Suddenly open mouth and slurred speech
13.Suddenly become dumb, incoherent or dumb as a wooden chicken with straight eyes.
As for the treatment and rehabilitation after a stroke, I will not go into details here due to time.
For various reasons. The language of Chinese medicine, which is familiar to everyone, now has to be used in Western terms for everyone to understand that this is an embarrassment to Chinese medicine. Thank you very much to the organizers for giving us such an opportunity to promote TCM and give us such a good opportunity to communicate.
