Breast milk and formula don’t mix.
Breast milk and milk powder can not be mixed together. Breastmilk and milk powder have different nutritional structures, as well as significantly different osmolality and electrolyte content. If you use a mixture of breastmilk and milk powder, the ratio is difficult to control.
The brewing consistency of milk powder may cause the osmotic pressure of the whole food to be too high or too low, which is not conducive to the child’s nutrient absorption. High osmolality can lead to indigestion, nausea, vomiting and other adverse symptoms. Too low osmolality and concentration will cause the child to consume too much water, but not enough nutrients, leading to malnutrition and so on.
Therefore, generally try to breastfeeding, if breast milk is not enough, you can use the complementary method or the method of mixed feeding, that is, you can first breastfeeding each feeding, the remaining part of the insufficient with formula supplement; or a breast milk, a formula meal alternately, to avoid mixing breast milk and milk powder, so as not to cause adverse effects.
