What exactly is carotid stenosis?
It turns out that all of our body organs need oxygen, and the brain is a major user of oxygen, so there is an artery on each side of our neck, which is the pipeline that carries oxygen to our brain. “Stroke”.
The main symptoms of carotid artery stenosis are.
1. Carotid stenosis causing ischemia in the brain, blindness or blackness in one eye, weakness, numbness, speech impairment, and partial blindness in one limb or in a lateral limb.
2, cerebral infarction, resulting in severe functional impairment, such as hemiplegia, etc.
Carotid stenosis is a blockage of the oxygen transport pipeline of one’s brain, and the brain shows signs of oxygen deprivation, and small emboli are dislodged, which leads to dizziness. The following two photos of the test results show that the patient’s carotid artery stenosis is very severe.
What should be the treatment
There are three main treatment methods for carotid stenosis.
1, medication: medication is the most basic treatment method, mainly lies in the prevention and control of high-risk factors of atherosclerosis, such as controlling blood sugar, lowering blood lipids, controlling blood pressure and antiplatelet medication, and also pay attention to the improvement of living habits, such as quitting smoking and appropriate activities.
2.Carotid endarterectomy: This is a safe and effective treatment to prevent and reduce the occurrence of strokes by removing the plaque that causes carotid artery stenosis.
3, carotid endoluminal therapy: This is also one of the main candidates for treatment of carotid stenosis, which is done by stent implantation and propping up the stenotic part of the vessel.
Our vascular surgeons here suggest that carotid artery disease is more important in screening and should be examined by vascular ultrasound regularly to avoid serious consequences, especially for the following groups
1, long-term smoking.
2, hypertensive disease.
3, diabetes mellitus.
4, high blood lipids.
