Why epileptic patients should have regular blood tests

Regular blood tests for epileptic patients are for observing the side effects of drugs, adjusting the treatment plan according to the blood concentration and so on.
1. Observe the side effects of drugs: because epileptic patients usually need to use anti-epileptic drugs for a long time, but these drugs may cause some side effects to the patient’s body if used for a long time.
For example, carbamazepine tablets may lead to nystagmus, diplopia, toxic hepatitis and other diseases. Phenytoin sodium tablets will have an impact on the hematopoietic system of patients, and platelets as well as granulocytes of the patients may be reduced, and regular blood tests can be carried out to observe the hematological situation of the patients after the use of drugs.
2. Adjustment of the treatment program: after the patient’s blood test, the doctor can understand the concentration of drugs in the patient’s blood and whether the amount of drugs is sufficient, so that the treatment program can be adjusted according to the patient’s situation, such as reasonable change of drugs, increase or decrease in the amount of drugs used and so on.
Epilepsy patients need to pay attention to the regular hematological examination. Based on the regular examination, the doctor will determine the drug response after medication and whether the medication needs to be adjusted. Please do not adjust the medication by yourself to avoid delaying the condition.
