New options for treatment of advanced gastric cancer

The State Food and Drug Administration recently approved Xiloda (capecitabine) for the treatment of gastric cancer. After colorectal cancer and metastatic breast cancer, Xirodar has a new therapeutic area. Although the 5-year survival rate after surgery for early gastric cancer can reach over 90%, 60% to 80% of gastric cancer patients’ tumors will locally progress or turn advanced, and chemotherapy is one of the most effective methods to save and prolong the lives of these patients. Capecitabine is an oral chemotherapy drug and patients can receive treatment at home. At the same time, this targeted drug can effectively prolong the survival and inhibit the progression of advanced gastric cancer patients . Professor Li Jin of Fudan University Cancer Hospital said the study confirmed that the combination of the drug with cisplatin can be used as first-line therapy for metastatic gastric cancer and that the new regimen has advantages in enhancing the quality of life of patients with progressive gastric cancer.
