It is everyone’s ideal to have a strong posture, but “perfection” does not appear in everything, and this is the case with my scoliosis patients, whose twisted spine is their “regret”! Scoliosis is commonly referred to as a “long deformity” of our spine. Not only the direction of the long crooked, but also backward convexity, the vertebrae will also have a rotation, is a three-dimensional deformity. When the spine bends more than 10 degrees over time, we call it ‘scoliosis’. However, if the spine is curved at an angle of less than 10 degrees, it is called spinal asymmetry. A full frontal and lateral spine X-ray is taken to see the size of the scoliosis. The angle of curvature of the spine is called the Cobb angle, which is a measure of the angle of scoliosis. In layman’s terms, the angle of intersection of the vertical lines of the horizontal margins of the two vertebrae with the greatest inclination on the concave side of the scoliosis is the Cobb angle. In addition, the spine is usually accompanied by the rotation of the vertebral body while scoliosis; it can be said that the rotation of the vertebral body is the primary factor causing scoliosis. At the same time, the greater the angle, the greater the danger. If the Cobb angle > 20 degrees, it will affect the development of height and back pain and other symptoms; Cobb angle > 100 degrees will cause restrictive lung disease, compression of the heart, and affect the development of the thorax. Here I want to emphasize one point: the measurement of scoliosis is carried out by professionals, that is, doctors in the spine department, not the patient or the patient’s family can do things, it is better to bring the film to the doctor, the doctor will make a judgment.
