The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology (Spine Surgery) of Wuyi Chinese Hospital is a key Chinese medicine specialty in Guangdong Province and a key discipline in Jiangmen City. Our department has strong technical strength, with 2 chief physicians, 1 deputy chief physician, 6 attending and resident physicians. The department inherits and carries forward the heritage of Chinese medicine, organizes and explores the classical literature of Chinese medicine and the experience of famous old experts, and gradually forms a distinctive theoretical system and treatment standard of Chinese medicine. Over the years, we have adopted a variety of traditional Chinese medicine treatment methods to treat spine-related diseases, such as chiropractic manipulation, acupressure, external application of Chinese herbal medicine, small needle knife, acupuncture, fire cupping, Chinese medicine fumigation, etc. We have treated a large number of patients with degenerative spinal diseases, acute spinal cord injuries, spinal tumors, spinal deformities and other disorders, and have accumulated rich clinical experience with remarkable clinical efficacy. Minimally invasive spine surgery is an important development trend of spine surgery. Our department follows the frontier of international development, insists on the concept of minimally invasive, and takes minimally invasive technology as a breakthrough to develop minimally invasive features. In Jiangmen Wuyi area, we are the first to introduce the American minimally invasive Mast-Quadrant expandable access surgical system and the Italian percutaneous percutaneous laser vaporization disc decompression (PLDD) system, and successfully carry out minimally invasive surgeries such as minimally invasive percutaneous internal fixation of the spinal arch nail, so that the technical level of the department has entered the ranks of domestic advanced. Other minimally invasive techniques that can be carried out in the department at present include vertebroplasty and percutaneous vertebral body kyphoplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, percutaneous laser disc vaporization and decompression, percutaneous discotomy and aspiration or discoscopic removal of the nucleus pulposus for lumbar disc herniation, and lumbar spine surgery under the Mast Quadrant minimally invasive channel. The difficulty and risk of spinal surgery are high, especially the difficulty and risk of orthopedic surgery for spinal deformity. In recent years, our department has gradually carried out orthopedic surgery for thoracolumbar kyphosis and scoliosis deformity. We have accumulated rich surgical experience in the surgical treatment of severe lumbar spondylolisthesis and osteoporosis, one-stage anterior-posterior surgery for spinal tuberculosis, surgical treatment of thoracic spinal stenosis, one-stage anterior-posterior cervical surgery and other difficult surgeries.
