Baby A, a 5-day-old female, is bleeding from the vagina with a white discharge. This phenomenon is medically known as “pseudomenstruation”. It usually occurs 3-7 days after birth and lasts for about a week. It is a normal physiological phenomenon and there is no need to be alarmed or treated. This is due to the influence of estrogen on the fetus in the mother’s body, the vaginal epithelium and endometrium proliferate, and after the fetus is delivered, the estrogen level drops rapidly and the endometrium falls off. Baby B, 7 days old, bilateral breast bulge like quail egg size, squeezing a little milk flow. This is a special physiological phenomenon of the newborn caused by the interruption of estrogen from the mother after the delivery of the fetus, and will usually subside naturally in 2~3 weeks. Do not squeeze the breast to avoid mastitis caused by nipple injury, or even sepsis, which may endanger the baby’s life.
