Cauda equina compression can be caused by a variety of reasons, such as lumbar disc herniation leading to cauda equina compression, lumbar vertebral body slippage can also lead to cauda equina compression, as well as lumbar vertebral fracture, infection, tumors and so on can lead to cauda equina compression. Lumbar disc herniation is seen in the central type of disc herniation, which often leads to cauda equina compression or free prolapse type of disc herniation, which leads to the tissues of the prolapsed disc falling into the spinal canal, resulting in cauda equina compression. Slippage of the lumbar vertebral bodies is seen as displacement and movement between the lumbar vertebrae resulting in compression of the cauda equina. Infections can present with cauda equina compression due to inflammatory irritation as well as destruction of bone, as can tumors, where compression of tumor tissue or destruction of bone results in cauda equina compression. Trauma, such as burst fracture of the lumbar spine, the fracture block protrudes into the vertebral canal can also cause cauda equina compression, specific advice to the patient to go to the hospital for examination.
