According to Chinese medicine, malignant tumor is a systemic disease, not a limited disease, but a local manifestation of systemic disease. The key to the pathogenesis of malignant tumor is the low ability of the human body to resist disease (positive qi), which is closely related to the development of malignant tumor. Deficiency of positive energy is closely related to the development of malignant tumors. In addition, the anxiety and depression of malignant tumor patients are higher than those of normal people, and the anxiety and depression are closely related to the immune status of the body. Tumor pathology should be dialectic from both overall and local aspects, and the treatment should be a combination of “supporting the positive and attacking the evil”, and the overall regulation of the human body should be done while the local tumor treatment should be targeted. The holistic concept of TCM cancer treatment is based on the basis of “living with tumor and coexisting with tumor”. The development of tumor is always the process of “the struggle between good and evil” in human body. When treating tumor, we must weigh the relationship between the body and the tumor as a whole and the local area, discriminate the evidence and administer the right medicine to ultimately achieve the purpose of “reducing pain and prolonging life”. In Chinese medicine, if a person is diagnosed with cancer, the treatment plan should be determined according to the relationship between the local and the whole body, and between the positive and the negative Qi, so as to “survive with tumor”. Therefore, some people summarize the respective treatment methods of Western medicine and Chinese medicine for tumors as follows: Western medicine is to “remove the tumor and cure the disease”, while Chinese medicine is to “survive with the tumor”. In this sense, for early stage cancer patients, although there are nodules and masses but they have not metastasized yet, they are “positive (human body’s resistance) and evil (tumor body) is real”, so the treatment is based on “attacking and eliminating evil”; for mid-stage cancer patients, the tumor body is gradually increasing, and the evil and positive are in the stage of holding each other. In advanced stage cancer patients, the tumor has metastasized to other organs, and the evil is strong while the positive is weak, so if we just attack, it will accelerate the patient’s death. If we adopt the principle of supporting the righteousness and eliminating the evil, we can often relieve the symptoms and maintain the vitality, so that the patient can “survive with tumor” for a long time. Therefore, the deficiency of Zheng is the internal root of disease development, and the invasion of evil is only the external condition that promotes the occurrence of tumor, and the support of Zheng is the key to treat tumor. Therefore, “supporting the righteousness” is the main body of anti-cancer treatment. Chinese medicine does not take tumor shrinkage as the only or main treatment purpose for patients with advanced tumors, but focuses on prolonging patients’ survival time and reducing pain, and has formulated the treatment rule of “combining holistic and targeted”. We have developed the formula of “softening and dispersing nodules and eliminating lumps, strengthening the spleen and moistening water, inhibiting cancer cells with herbs, stopping bleeding and relieving pain”, which greatly improves the survival time of patients with mid- to late-stage tumors and reduces their pain. 2. Combined with food therapy Food is a part of medicine in diet therapy, although food cannot completely replace medicine. The combination of Chinese medicine and acupuncture can improve the symptoms, improve the quality of life and prolong the survival period.
