How many hours does it take for a medical abortion to come down?

After the medication is completed for a medication abortion, it usually takes effect in about half an hour, and the patient can expel the fetal sac 2-3 hours after the onset of abdominal pain. Oral medications for medication abortion include mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone is only a pre-prep and patients usually do not experience symptoms while taking the medication. Misoprostol, on the other hand, can cause uterine contractions and abdominal pain. It usually takes effect about half an hour after taking the drug, and most patients expel the fetal sac 2-3 hours after taking the drug. After oral administration of the drug, the patient should be observed for 6 hours. If the fetal sac is not expelled after 6 hours, a refill of the drug is required. If the vaginal bleeding is not too much, the patient can go home to rest. If the vaginal bleeding is incomplete, the patient needs to have a repeat ultrasound or even a curettage. In addition, after abortion, patients should take oral antibiotics and medication to promote uterine recovery, pay attention to warmth, rest, avoid over-intensive activities, and avoid intercourse and tub bath for 1 month.
