Normal people usually urinate 5-10 times, and 0-2 times at night. If you exceed this range or urinate too many times in a short period of time, you generally have frequent urination, which is often due to mental factors or urinary tract infection. There are many kinds of frequent urination, and it is normal to urinate more often when you drink too much water, when you are nervous or in a cold climate. If it is accompanied by urinary urgency, painful urination, and although the number of urination increases, the volume of urine per urination decreases and the total daily urine volume is normal, this condition is common and is mostly due to inflammation of the bladder, urethra, prostate and paraurethral glands, etc. It often requires antibiotic treatment and can usually be cured. An increase in the frequency of urination but not the volume of urine, and an increase in the total volume of urine is called polyuria. It may be caused by uremia, diabetes mellitus, psychogenic polyuria or kidney disease. Central and peripheral neuropathy, such as hysteria, makes problems with the nerves that control urination resulting in neurogenic bladder, etc. In this case, the volume of urine is small each time and there are no obvious signs of inflammation. Rarely, there are other causes such as reduced bladder volume, which need to be carefully identified and treated for the cause.
