What are the four categories of phlebitis?

Phlebitis is generally categorized into four types: i. Redness at the site of infusion, with or without pain. Second, pain at the site of infusion with redness or edema. Third, pain at the site of infusion, accompanied by redness or edema, with the formation of striae, which can be palpated, a condition known as thrombosis of the superficial veins is also called thrombosed superficial phlebitis. In the fourth and most severe grade, there is pain at the infusion site, accompanied by redness or edema, palpable cords of veins, usually longer than 2.5 cm and pus oozing out. Phlebitis above grade 3 usually requires aggressive treatment, including the use of medications to control the spread of the phlebitis and to prevent it from entering the deep veins and causing deep vein thrombosis.
