How long after the full course of rabies vaccine do you know you’re okay?

Generally, it takes 1 month for antibodies to develop after a full course of rabies vaccination, and after 1 month the body will gradually develop effective antibodies against the rabies virus. The incubation period of rabies virus varies after being bitten by a dog. Most people develop the disease within 1-3 months, but the incubation period of a few people can reach several years, while those with a shorter incubation period are less than a week. The length of the incubation period for rabies onset is related to age, depth of the wound, amount and virulence of the invading virus and the abundance of peripheral nerves. Rabies vaccine is required immediately after an animal bite, usually no more than 24 hours later. Rabies vaccine usually takes 1 month to produce antibodies, and the onset of rabies is usually within 3 months. If no obvious symptoms appear after 3 months and rabies antibodies are tested to be more than 0.5 U/ml, there is basically no risk of being infected. Patients should note that after rabies vaccination, redness, swelling and pain at the vaccination site may occur, and even some people will have hard nodules, peripheral edema of the injected limb, etc., which can usually be relieved by themselves and do not need treatment. Try not to take a shower on the day of vaccination to avoid infection at the vaccination site.
