What are the types of meningiomas?

There are many types of meningiomas, which are mainly based on clinicopathological characteristics, growth site and histological type.
1. Clinicopathological characteristics: this is the main clinical typing of meningioma, which is mainly based on the invasiveness of the tumor to the surrounding tissues, the recurrence rate of the disease and other characteristics of the patients. Benign meningiomas are usually non-invasive or less invasive to the surrounding brain tissues, with low recurrence rate, good prognosis, slow growth rate, and basically can be clinically cured through surgical resection. Meanwhile, there are relatively serious atypical meningiomas and more serious mesenchymal or malignant meningiomas.
2. Site of growth: this classification is mainly based on the part of the tumor. Meningiomas appearing on the convex side of the brain are called convex meningiomas, and those appearing on the middle skull base are called middle skull base meningiomas. Meningiomas that appear in the middle skull base are called middle skull base meningiomas. Other common clinical types include meningiomas of the occipital foramen magnum and meningiomas of the slope region.
3. Histological type: this classification is mainly based on the shape of the tumor, the nature of the internal tissue and other factors. The more common clinical types include fibrous meningioma, vascular meningioma, papillary meningioma, endothelial meningioma and so on.
To sum up, there are more types of meningiomas, but at present, the clinical classification is usually based on the clinicopathological characteristics of the tumor, which is of greater clinical significance, and the patients can initially judge whether the condition is serious or not according to the classification of their own meningiomas.
