Do women get menstrual cramps because of elevated prostaglandins?

Dysmenorrhea in women is associated with elevated prostaglandins, but not all dysmenorrhea is due to elevated prostaglandins. Dysmenorrhea in women is generally categorized into two types, primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea is mainly related to elevated prostaglandins in the endometrium during the onset of menstruation. Elevated prostaglandins cause excessive contraction of the uterine smooth muscle and vasospasm, resulting in hypoxia and ischemia, leading to dysmenorrhea. Secondary dysmenorrhea is caused by gynecologic diseases, most commonly endometriosis and adenomyosis. The degree of primary dysmenorrhea varies from person to person. Severe dysmenorrhea often results in sweating, nausea, diarrhea, etc. If it is intolerable, it can be treated with anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medications under the guidance of a doctor. Secondary dysmenorrhea will have obvious progressive aggravation of dysmenorrhea. No matter which kind of dysmenorrhea, you should keep your mood happy, combine work and rest, keep your vagina clean during menstruation, pay attention to menstrual hygiene, pay attention to warmth, and in serious cases, you can take medication as prescribed by the doctor for pain relief.
