If cryptorchidism is found before the age of one year, the baby boy should first be examined by a doctor and most of them can be palpated along the groin. If it is not palpable, other ultrasound and radiological examinations will be performed to locate it. As mentioned before, the testicles will continue to descend from birth to 1 year old, so if the testicles are cryptorchid before 1 year old, we can observe and wait, but if they are over 1 year old, surgery should be considered, and no later than 1.5 years old, otherwise the testicles’ ability to produce sperm will be irreversibly damaged. At the age of 3 or 4, the entire testicle will be fibrotic, and at this point, even after surgery, the testicle will be useless. Cryptorchidism does not prevent the production of male hormones, but with delayed treatment, the ability to produce sperm will gradually decrease and the chance of cancer will increase. Surgical treatment of cryptorchidism is to pull down the testicle that is halfway to the scrotum and fix it. Most of them can be cured in one go, but for some intra-abdominal cryptorchidism, the surgery must be divided into two stages to successfully fix the testicle. Delays in cryptorchidism are often caused by parental negligence, so when helping your little boy take a bath, please remember to feel two balls of comparable texture and size in the scrotum intact at least once, and whenever in doubt, be sure to check with your doctor as soon as possible!
