When to have stent surgery for cerebral infarction

Patients with cerebral infarction can be considered for stenting after they have clear vascular stenosis. Patients with cerebral infarction can have their vascular condition evaluated. Initially, we can check the neck vascular ultrasound to observe the large arteries in the neck such as carotid artery, internal carotid artery and vertebral artery, whether there is atherosclerosis with plaque formation, and whether there is narrowing or occlusion of the lumen of the vessels. If the stenosis is more than 70%, stent implantation can be considered for either the large arteries in the neck or the large intracranial arteries. Digital subtraction angiography, which is the most accurate angiography for determining blood vessels, should be completed before the actual surgery.
