[Abstract] OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical results of 34 cases of lumbar disc herniation treated by posterior discoscopic (MED) surgery. METHODS: From July 2003 to July 2005, MED surgery was applied to treat 34 patients with lumbar disc herniation, 26 men and 8 women, aged 20-68 years, including 32 cases of single-segment disc herniation, 1 case of disc herniation with spinal stenosis, and 1 case of double-segment herniation. RESULTS: At 6 to 24 months of follow-up, 29 cases were excellent, 3 cases were good, and 2 cases were acceptable according to Nakai criteria, with an excellent rate of 94%, and the JOA score improved from 15 (10-24) preoperatively to 27 (24-29) postoperatively according to the JOA score method, with an improvement rate of 85%. Conclusion: MED surgery is adequate for decompression, less trauma, less bleeding, and good early postoperative recovery. [Keywords] lumbar spine; disc herniation; endoscopy;
