Leg swelling after cervical cancer surgery may be caused by obstruction of lymphatic reflux in lower limbs, venous thrombosis, tumor recurrence and so on. If the lymphatic reflux of lower limbs is impaired, the edema should be reduced by bed rest, elevating the affected limbs, reducing the time of standing, and applying local hot compresses. For venous thrombosis, anticoagulant drugs can be used as prescribed by doctor, and elastic stockings can be worn or lower limbs can be elevated. Tumor recurrence should be treated by surgery and other methods. 1. Lower limb lymphatic reflux disorder: cervical cancer surgery will clear pelvic lymph nodes, and after pelvic lymph node clearing, there will be lower limb lymphatic reflux disorder, which will cause lower limb edema. Edema should be reduced by bed rest, elevating the affected limbs as much as possible, promoting venous return, reducing the time of standing and applying local hot compresses. 2. Venous thrombosis: after surgery for cervical cancer, blood stagnation in the veins of lower limbs may be caused by too little activity, resulting in lower limb venous thrombosis and obstruction of venous reflux, which may lead to lower limb edema. Anti-coagulant drugs such as heparin and warfarin can be used as prescribed by doctors, and elastic stockings or elevation of lower limbs can be worn to promote venous return and reduce venous thrombosis. 3. Tumor recurrence: when the tumor recurs in the pelvis and compresses the inferior vena cava, it also leads to obstruction of venous return of the lower limbs, resulting in edema of the lower limbs. Surgery such as tumor removal should be taken in time for treatment. Patients with leg swelling after cervical cancer surgery should go to the hospital in time, improve the examination, clarify the cause of the disease, and follow the doctor’s instruction to deal with the treatment.
