Houpu has the effect of drying dampness and eliminating phlegm, lowering qi and removing fullness (enabling qi to go downward to alleviate the discomfort of flatulence), and is mainly used for the treatment of abdominal and stomach fullness caused by dampness obstruction in the middle jiao (dampness obstructing the function of the spleen and stomach), qi stagnation caused by stagnation of food and drink, abdominal distension and constipation, coughing and coughing up phlegm due to the lack of descending of the lung qi, indistinction of dampness and turbidness, cholera and diarrhea, and the pharyngeal obstruction of depression, phlegm and qi interlocking obstruction. Houpu is warm and dry, and should be used with caution for people with deficiency of qi and fluid (shortness of breath, dizziness, dry mouth and tongue, etc.) and pregnant women. 2. Job’s tears have the effect of inducing water and seeping dampness, strengthening the spleen and stopping diarrhea, eliminating dampness and removing paralysis, clearing heat and draining pus, and are used for treating water-dampness internal stoppage (water-dampness stays in the body) of oedema, urinary incontinence, diarrhea of spleen deficiency, rheumatism, joints, swelling, heat pain, sores and abscesses of the lungs and chest pains, and the abdominal pain and fever of the intestinal tract, such as cancerous tumors. Be cautious of using this product in spleen deficiency without dampness, dry stools and pregnant women. The above two medicines should be used by traditional Chinese medicine practitioners after diagnosis. It is not recommended to use the medicines on one’s own or blindly increase the dosage in order to avoid delaying the condition.
