Are ground glass nodules the same kind as pure ground glass?

Milled glass nodules include pure milled glass nodules and mixed nodules, both of which differ in extent and risk of malignancy. Lung nodules are categorized according to their density as solid, pure ground glass and mixed nodules. Mixed nodules have both solid and ground-glass components; therefore, mixed nodules and pure ground-glass nodules are collectively called ground-glass nodules. Mulled glass nodules appear as cloudy, slightly dense images on chest CT and are usually caused by exudation from inflammatory lung lesions, but may also be caused by malignant tumors such as lung cancer. Pure ground-glass nodules are more likely to be benign, but there is a certain risk of malignant lung cancer; while mixed nodules are more likely to be malignant nodules caused by lung cancer than pure ground-glass nodules. It is recommended to consult a specialist for the presence of lung nodules, and based on the description of the nodule size, morphology, and borders in the imaging examination, the risk of malignancy of the nodule should be initially determined, and further examination and treatment should be performed according to the doctor’s instructions.
