Retinal degeneration usually refers to retinitis pigmentosa. Retinitis pigmentosa is a class of progressive hereditary retinal degeneration diseases with predominant involvement of optic rod cells, and as such, it will continue to progress, but the progression of the disease is a slow process. The progression of the disease can be slowed down if patients are treated actively. Current treatments include basic treatment, medication and surgery.
1. Basic treatment: For people with poor vision, they can wear visual aids to improve their vision. Patients can also wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from ultraviolet rays.
2. Medication: Patients with retinitis pigmentosa can follow the doctor’s instructions to use nutritive drugs, such as vitamin B12, lutein and so on.
3. Surgery: Retinitis pigmentosa patients with poor vision can be treated with surgery such as implantation of visual prosthesis and stem cell transplantation, but these surgeries have not yet been applied to clinical practice on a large scale, and the effects need to be further observed.
It is recommended that patients with retinitis pigmentosa should consult a doctor in time to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
